Replicating Sculptures at The Met from 1527 of “Flora” and “Priapus” by Pietro and Gian Lorenzo Bernini
The Borghese Gallery in Rome commissioned the Metropolitan Museum of Art to produce replicas of its 1527 sculptures “Flora” and “Priapus” for display at the Borghese. Scansite 3D travelled to New York to conduct on-site digitizing of both sculptures. We then returned to our studio to edit the scan data and create a high resolution “watertight” model.
The next step was for the scan data files to be milled by a CNC milling machine to produce foam patterns. The CNC milling was done by Satellite Models. The foam patterns were then sent to the museum’s master carver for use in making molds for casting the replicas.
