Paleontology: Scansite has been
a leading player in adapting the uses of 3-dimensional
scanning to Paleontology. The scanning process has the
advantage of being non-invasive (it is not necessary
to physically touch the object).
Once an object has been converted to three dimensional
data, it can be used in many ways: It can be scaled
up or down and milled on a CNC
milling machine or used for a variety of rapid
prototyping processes.. It can be sent to many different
scholars for simultaneous study. It can be used for
biomechanical study and animation. It can allow analysis
of volume, surface area and cross section.
