The New York Metropolitan
Museum of Art
Artists:
Pietro and Gian Lorenzo Bernini
Scope of Work:
The Borghese Gallery in Rome had
approached the Metropolitan about
obtaining copies of the famous 1527
sculptures to display in their own
museum. Scansite traveled to New
York to conduct on-site digitizing and
then returned to the studio and spent
over four months editing the files.
The next step was for the completed
files to be milled on a CNC milling
machine to produce foam patterns. The
foam patterns were then given to the
museum's master carver for use in
making molds for casting the copies.
